This month's Origin Select is a washed-process microlot from Tanzania's Mbozi District, grown at 1,616 meters above sea level by more than 440 smallholder farmers of the Sambewe AMCOS cooperative. Featuring mellow notes of fresh melon, peanut butter, and malt with a mild syrupy sweetness, this medium roast reflects Tanzania's rich coffee heritage and meticulous processing. Carefully selected from the highest-scoring harvests, the coffee is depulped, fermented, washed, and slowly dried to bring out its vibrant character. The result is a clean, balanced cup that beautifully showcases the quality of Tanzanian coffee.

The Abadatezuka Cooperative is a group of smallholder farmers in Rwanda's Western Province who deliver their coffee in cherry to the Cyato Washing Station. We chose their coffee deliberately because of the tasting notes: the first sip almost suggests a dark hot cocoa, but then it takes a nice turn to bring the fruity, winey, berry notes. It's all balanced by a light mulling spice nuance…a real crowd pleaser! This coffee was intentionally processed utilizing anaerobic fermentation, which we find often brings out an increase in the intensity of fruit and acidity and a slight increase in the body.
